At this meeting, organized by the Cervantes Institute, in partnership with Abdelmalek Essaâdi University, King Juan Carlos University and Charles III University, speakers stressed the importance of strengthening cultural diplomacy between Morocco and Spain as a fundamental tool for building a solid foundation for mutual trust, understanding and peace, in order to establish a lasting dialogue and harmony between the two countries.
This event, which was attended by Moroccan and Spanish academics and cultural actors, was an opportunity to highlight the importance of this tool in the fight against stereotypes and prejudices between the two countries, and to reaffirm that the achievement of sustainable development requires the integration of the cultural dimension.
In this context, the professors of Public International Law and International Relations at King Juan Carlos University, Cástor Díaz Barrado and Sagrario Morán Blanco, proposed, in accordance with the 13th point of the new Moroccan-Spanish roadmap announced in the joint statement adopted last April 7, the creation of a "Hispanic-Moroccan Cultural Charter", based on the Ibero-American cultural agenda, presenting the outlines of this Charter.
For his part, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Legal, Economic and Social Sciences of Tangier, Hamid Aboulas, called for the need to establish partnership agreements between the universities of both countries and to jointly organize seminars and meetings, able to present practical ideas to help resolve disputes and ensure joint management of bilateral issues, stressing the imperative to join the 14 Moroccan public universities, to present proposals under the project "Hispano-Moroccan Cultural Charter."
As for the head of the Department of Hispanic Studies at Abdelmalek Essaâdi University, Abderrahman El Fathi, he stressed the importance of involving the departments of Hispanic studies of Moroccan universities and the Cervantes Institutes in the sectoral working team around the culture that will be established soon, to implement the provisions of the roadmap.
This meeting was also marked by the intervention of Carlos Fernández Liesa, Professor of International Law at Charles III University, who said that culture is present in the 17 goals of sustainable development of the United Nations Agenda 2030, stressing the need to deepen the work on the role of culture in the knowledge of the other and the development of peoples.
In Tangier, a workshop was held with the participation of Moroccan and Spanish academics and a hundred master's students at Abdelmalek Essaâdi University, which was an opportunity to focus on the role of culture in contemporary societies.
Participants stressed the importance of promoting the exchange of scientific missions between Morocco and Spain to strengthen neighborhood ties.
