In a statement, the High Commission says that this protocol, initialed recently in Rabat by videoconferencing by HCAR High Commissioner Mustapha El Ktiri, will enter into force from June 1 for a period of four years.
This agreement aims to establish mechanisms of cooperation and partnership and to strengthen relations of solidarity and joint action to preserve and enhance the Moroccan-Belgian historical memory as well as to exchange experiences and knowledge between the two institutions in areas of common interest.
Under this protocol, the two sides undertake to preserve and enhance the historical heritage related to the common memory of the two countries, in addition to the development of cooperation programs between the two sides.
It also provides for the joint organization of ceremonies commemorating annual national events, exhibitions of archives and historical documents and screenings of documentaries on the common history of the two countries, as well as study days, round tables and seminars on the common Moroccan-Belgian memory.
The signing of this protocol comes within the framework of efforts of the High Commission to preserve and enhance the national historical memory and historical heritage of the national struggle for liberation through research, documentation, historical accounts, in addition to the enrichment and repatriation of documents deposited in foreign archives through the establishment of cooperation relations and partnerships with institutions and similar organizations.
This initiative is an added value for the preservation of the common national historical memory, the statement adds, noting that it will be conducted to study the possibilities of sending and encouraging Moroccan researchers specialized in carrying out the missions of inspection, selection and reproduction of common historical archives deposited in the State Archives in Belgium, in addition to strengthening scientific missions in the field of preservation of the shared national historical memory.
The duty of preserving the national historical memory and the common memory is of paramount importance and is included in the action plans of the High Commission which works to provide a documentary fund promoting the study and analysis of the common memory with the brotherly and friendly countries, including the Kingdom of Belgium, which shares a rich history with the Kingdom of Morocco.
