In a statement published on its official website, CAF said it received a letter from the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) to host the final and said it "fully understands" the concerns raised by Al Ahly SC and the EFA.
It said it is "committed to the principles of fairness, justice and equality of all clubs and member associations".
"The TotalEnergies Champions League final would be a one-leg final rather than the usual two-legged home and away final,” CAF stressed.
“CAF is also bound by the CAF and FIFA rules which do not allow competition rules to be changed once the competition has started,” the same source noted.
It recalled that “Morocco and Senegal were the only countries that fulfilled the host country bid criteria,” emphasizing that “Egypt did not submit a bid”.
“CAF subsequently awarded the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League final to Morocco, after Senegal withdrew its bid,” the source stressed.
There are currently discussions underway within CAF to revert to the old two-legged home and away final to determine the winner of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, rather than the one-leg final, CAF concluded.
