Royal Navy Foils Drug Trafficking Operation off El Jadida

Rabat - Royal Navy's coastguards on patrol in the Atlantic aborted, in collaboration with a maritime surveillance plane, a drug trafficking operation on Monday at 4:30 a.m. off the coast of El Jadida, said Tuesday a press release issued by the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces.

This intervention took place after chasing at sea several artisanal fishing boats used in illicit trafficking and preventing them from transshipping their cargoes on board three boats waiting offshore, the release added.

The operation led to the arrest of 6 traffickers, including 3 of Spanish nationality, and the seizure of more than 12 tons of cannabis resin.

The offenders, the equipment and the cargo seized, were transported to the port of El Jadida and handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie for the usual administrative procedures.
