Police Seize 2.3 Tons of Cannabis Resin, Arrest Three People in Guelmim

Rabat - Policemen on Monday arrested, on the basis of precise information provided by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), three people for their alleged involvement in international drug trafficking and possession of hunting weapons without authorization and seized 2.3 tons of cannabis resin, National Police (DGSN) said in a statement.

The suspects were arrested in separate security operations: two aboard a four-wheel vehicle at the entrance to the city of Guelmim while the third one was arrested in the rural area of Abaynou, 15 km from the city, the statement adds.

Searches carried out at the home of the third suspect led to the seizure of a hunting rifle without authorization, 14 cartridges, two cars including a four-wheel vehicle and 2.3 tons of cannabis resin.

The defendants were taken into custody pending the investigation carried out under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office.

This operation is part of the intense and ongoing efforts undertaken by security services of the DGSN and the DGST to fight against international drug trafficking networks.
