36th Marathon des Sables: Rachid El Morabity, Anna Comet Win First Stage

Aguenoun N'Oumerhiout (Province of Tinghir) - Moroccan Rachid El Morabity and Spanish Anna Comet won the first stage of the 36th edition of the Marathon des Sables (MdS), which connected, Sunday, Timgaline to Aguenoun N'Oumerhiout over a distance of 30.3 km.

El Morabity won this first stage with a time of 2h 04min 16sec, ahead of his compatriot Aziz Yachou (2h 04min 37sec), while Mohamed El Morabity, the younger brother of Rachid came third (2h 10min 16sec).

In the women's category, Anna Comet (2h 52min 20sec) beat French Sylvaine Cussot (2h 56min 25sec), while Moroccan Aziza Raji came third with a time of 2h 59min 41sec.

The second stage of this race will connect Aguenoun N'Oumerhiout to Rich Mbirika (38.5 km), while the third one will connect Rich Mbirika to El Mahrach over a distance of 32.1 km.

The Marathon des Sables (MDS), marked by the participation of 952 runners, runs through April 4th, 2022.
