This arrest was based on accurate information provided by the services of the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), according to a statement from the National Police (DGSN).
The suspect, aged 52, was arrested in Tangier as part of the distinguished bilateral cooperation relations between the Moroccan security services and their American counterparts, the statement said.
In addition, the statement precised that this operation comes as part of national security and territorial surveillance's ongoing efforts to prosecute persons who are subject to international wanted notice for transnational crime cases, the same source added.
According to the preliminary data of the investigation, the foreign citizen is suspected of having sexually assaulted a minor on U.S. soil before fleeing and being located in Morocco and arrested in Tangier, said the DGSN.
The accused was placed in custody by order of the competent prosecutor, in accordance with the extradition procedure, while the competent U.S. authorities have been informed of the arrest in accordance with the conventions and legal provisions relating thereto, the statement concluded.
