"By inviting me to its platform on Monday morning to explain and understand why Morocco has chosen to write the history of its Judaism in the future, the French The Académie des Sciences Morales et Politiques is doing justice to the social modernity of Morocco and its rootedness in the richness of all its diversities,” said Mr. Azoulay.
Mr. Azoulay expressed his deep gratitude to the members of this eminent assembly for having made possible "this improbable and unprecedented meeting around a another history of Judaism in the land of Islam, in counterpoint, with regard to Morocco, the impressive refoundation of the place, the role and the heritage of Judaism in the long history of Morocco."
"Remarkable in all respects, singular in the south of the Mediterranean, this aggiornamento is not a posture, nor is it the fleeting and interested expression of a political exercise of the moment intended to attract good graces or the support of anyone", added the Adviser to HM the King, highlighting the "voluntarist character, the pedagogical anchoring and the largely consensual militant involvement of the living forces of Morocco, Muslims and Jews, animated by the same desire to reclaim the heritage of all the civilizations which over the millennia have nourished and determined the history of the Moroccan Nation and People".
Mr. Azoulay then developed and analyzed at length the "emblematic and so Moroccan character of the symbiosis embodied by the spiritual, temporal and moral leadership of HM King Mohammed VI and the strong support from the largest part of Moroccan civil society to this choice founded in the legitimacy, convergence and addition of all our diversities."
Reserving the last part of his intervention to the place and role of Essaouira "yesterday stronghold of a proximity and a Judeo-Muslim capillarity which has not finished feeding our collective imagination, Essaouira today committed naviral-admiral, never late for an initiative or a proposal to carry this Moroccan message even further in the world-planet, in the land of Islam, which has been able to resist amnesia and all conjecture and send from Morocco and towards the most distant horizons the message and the teachings of another history, another destiny for another future between Jews and Muslims."
Warmly applauded by the audience, Mr. Azoulay then answered questions from academicians and their guests before taking part in a lunch offered in his honor and to which many personalities from the political, academic and cultural spheres were invited.
