The Kingdom is in a transitional phase, underlined Mouad Mrabet, coordinator at the National Center for Emergency Operations of Public Health of the Ministry, stressing that this situation offers the perfect time to accelerate vaccination.
This is especially true as several countries are enduring epidemic rebounds in a context marked by the emergence of the new Omicron variant, he explained during the presentation of the bimonthly review of the Covid-19 situation in Morocco.
New infections underwent a quasi-stagnation during the last week with 859 cases, at the time when the rate of positivity remained around 1%, detailed the governmental official.
The same observation is made for the entries to intensive care and resuscitation, he added, specifying that there was an average of 104 severe and critical cases during the last three weeks on the national territory. This is also applicable to the number of deaths, reaching 14 cases during the last week, against 15 for the week before.
The reproduction rate is around 1.04, showing that the epidemic curve persists in a phase of decreasing plateau, said the same source.
Referring to the national vaccination campaign, Mrabet revealed that 67% of the target population received one vaccine shot, and 62.3% received two injections, adding that 5% have received the booster shot (third dose).
However, the average validity of the second dose stands at 26.3%. This means about 74% of citizens who are concerned with the booster shot have not yet received it, he pointed out.
Mrabet reiterated health authorities' call to all citizens to respect the preventive measures in force, preserve the precious gains made throughout this struggle and massively adhere, without delay, to the national vaccination campaign, insisting particularly on the third dose.
