Speaking at the opening of the exhibition "Haïm Zafrani, an eminent intellectual of Moroccan Judaism", held at the Gallery of the National Archives, Azoulay paid tribute to Jamaa Baïda, Director of the National Archives, for organizing this event "awaited by many of us and which will help us understand the immensity and the rich singularity of the work of Haïm Zafrani, recognized by his peers as one of the best experts worldwide on the social history of Judaism in the Muslim West".
Recalling that this exhibition was made possible thanks to the partnership of the Moroccan Archives with Bayt Dakira in Essaouira, Azoulay stressed that "the research, books, and teachings of Haïm Zafrani have converged to finally give authority and credibility to the historical roots of Moroccan Judaism, its national legitimacy and the depth of its contributions to Moroccan civilization."
It is in this perspective that HM the King's Advisor highlighted the centrality and place of Essaouira-Mogador in the work and thinking of Professor Haïm Zafrani.
"Kabbalist and Sufi, he was born in Essaouira in Abdelssamih Street, named Haïm (life in Hebrew) and called Zafrani (Zaafran, the flower of fullness). His path was laid out before him to prepare him for the immense journey that was to be his", said Azoulay.
The exhibition "Haïm Zafrani: an eminent intellectual of Moroccan Judaism" will run at the Gallery of the National Archives until March 6, 2022.
