The ceremony, held in contemplation, took place in the presence of local authorities, representatives of several foreign embassies, as well as veterans who defended France during this war.
On this occasion, the French ambassador to Morocco, Hélène Le Gal, presented the veteran's cross, on behalf of the French Minister of the Armed Forces, Florence Parly, to veteran M'Hammed Rahhali.
"On this day, we remember those who fought for France between 1914 and 1918, those who fell on the field of honor on all fronts, East and West," said Le Gal, in a speech.
"The names engraved on our war memorials are a constant reminder of the values of honor, courage, dedication and bravery," said the ambassador.
Le Gal also paid tribute to the 40,000 Moroccan soldiers engaged in this war, 11,000 of whom never returned, before expressing a "special thought for the 7 French soldiers who died for France over the past year, without forgetting those of allied and friendly countries (...)".
