In a joint declaration issued at the end of bilateral talks held by videoconference between the Moroccan minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and his Dominican counterpart, Roberto Alvarez, the two sides stressed "the importance of strengthening economic and trade relations between the two countries and pledged to continue their efforts to develop bilateral trade flows and promote investments".
The two ministers agreed to convene, as soon as possible, the 1st meeting of the Joint Working Group for Strengthening Trade, Investment and the Production Chain, in order to increase business opportunities and explore the potential of the diversification of trade and investment links between the two countries, the document points out.
After expressing their great satisfaction with the excellent relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Dominican Republic, based on strong bonds of friendship, fraternity, solidarity and cooperation, as well as on shared values and interests, strengthened by the visit of HM King Mohammed VI to the Dominican Republic in 2004, the two officials welcomed the Agreement concluded in June 2019 between the two countries, relating to the reciprocal exemption of tourist and business visas for nationals of the two countries, which entered into force on July 14, 2021.
The two sides also committed to promoting and diversifying their cooperation within the framework of the development of a fruitful and mutually beneficial South-South cooperation, Morocco constituting "a natural bridge" between Latin America and the Arab-African world, while the Dominican Republic is "a gateway" and "a platform" to Latin America and the Caribbean, the source adds.
In addition, the government of the Kingdom of Morocco has expressed its support for the political and institutional reforms carried out by the government of the Dominican Republic with a view to strengthening democratic systems, economic growth and the sustainable well-being of its people.
In this regard, the two sides pledged to support each other for the strengthening and consolidation of institutions, through an exchange of experiences and good practices.
For its part, the Dominican Republic congratulated the Kingdom of Morocco for "the excellent democratic conditions" in which the last general, regional and local elections were held in September 2021, as well as the "strong participation" recorded at the national level, and more particularly in the southern provinces of the country.
This virtual meeting between Bourita and Alvarez takes place following the last meeting held between the two sides in June 2019, in Santo Domingo, and is part of a common desire to pursue a continuous political dialogue to strengthen bilateral relations and give a new impetus to cooperation in various areas of common interest.
On this occasion, the two parties underlined the several important achievements which marked more than 60 years of bilateral diplomatic relations, celebrated jointly on December 15, 2020.
The two ministers also reaffirmed the strategic nature of bilateral relations, reflected by the density of political ties, and agreed, in this regard, to maintain an open and high-level dialogue between the two governments to promote cooperation in various sectors.
The two parties further expressed their determination to continue, stimulate and strengthen the current collaboration between the two ministries and decided to meet again in the first half of 2022, at the next meeting of the Political Consultations Mechanism, the Joint Declaration concludes.
