In a packed amphitheater of ISIC, the illustrious institution of journalism education in Morocco, Hachimi Idrissi gave a lecture under the theme: "The challenges of journalism today in the face of a changing media environment", before an audience of students, professors and journalists.
From the top of more than thirty years of practice in the profession, Hachimi Idrissi has, for more than two hours, shared his experiences and lessons learned during his rich professional career with an eager audience, who came to listen to a fine of the profession.
Hachimi Idrissi, who was president of the Moroccan Federation of Newspaper Publishers (FMEJ), stressed in his presentation that in the face of a digital tsunami that has reshuffled its cards and changed its parameters, journalism must evolve and take into account the current changes and adapt to them.
In this regard, he noted that in the era of digital and social networks, journalism is facing structural transformations that change several of its parameters.
According to him, this change has provoked a transformation in the way society looks at the professional journalist, which leads us to insist on the question of legitimacy in the exercise of the profession.
This legitimacy is acquired, according to Hachimi Idrissi, through the prerequisites necessary to exercise the profession of journalist, and at the head of which is the basic training and general culture.
"Without the general culture, there is no way to go far in journalism. It is the lever of the future," he said, adding that the mastery of techniques and journalistic genres is equally essential to practice it.
Other distinctive features and not the least according to MAP DG, there are ethics, the set of rules related to the exercise of the profession, and the mastery of the trade, including verification of information, its cross-checking and citation of sources.
"A journalist is not a cursed poet, a mad novelist or an acrobat, it is a professional who works with techniques and professionalism, within the framework of a work organization that must be respected," stressed Hachimi Idrissi.
He also emphasized the importance of versatility in journalism today, arguing that from now on the journalist will be called upon to write the text, capture images, film scenes and edit the sound.
"Basically, the media of the future will be multimedia," said Hachimi Idrissi, founder of the French-language daily "Aujourd'hui le Maroc", who mentioned in his speech the issue of the current business model of the press.
This model, which dates from the 19th century will soon disappear and "the press will perhaps die in its printed version," said Hachimi Idrissi for whom the journalist will not disappear, because society needs legitimate people on the professional level.
Following this inaugural lecture, which was attended by Director of ISIC, Abdellatif Bensfia, and Secretary General of the Department of Communication, Mustapha Taimi, the mediator of MAP, Driss Ajbali, presented to the audience the book "Figures of the Moroccan press", the biographical directory of journalists who have marked the national media scene.
Ajbali explained, on this occasion, the various stages of realization of this work of about 600 pages, which includes the portraits of 270 media personalities.
