35th Edition of Marathon des Sables Kicks Off

Borj Irdi - The 35th edition of the Marathon des Sables, a trail of 250 km divided into 6 stages, kicked off Sunday in Borj Irdi in the province of Errachidia, with the participation of 672 runners.

Placed under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, the Marathon des Sables (MDS) runs until October 11. This year, it brings together runners of 41 nationalities. The first stage of this event will connect Borj Irdi to Tisserdimine over a distance of 32.2 km.

The Marathon, which was postponed twice, is the first desert race in the world to be run in self-sufficiency (no meals are provided to competitors). More than 22,000 runners have participated in MDS since its launch in 1986.
